Inside Out Exhibition

The exhibition From the Inside Out is a collection of works that explores the relationship between the human body and the earth we inhabit.

The ‘Body Earth, Body Man’ series is an analogy between the earth and the human body that has been influenced by different ideals and aspects of culture and philosophy. Each work incorporates diverse views and inspirations from artist Leonardo Da Vinci, Chinese poet Su Dongpo, the Aboriginal Balgo community, Roman philosopher Lucius Seneca, the Christian bible and wilderness photographer Peter Domrovsksis.

This exhibition also explores the relationship between the earth and the human body in ‘decay’ through the works of Corporeal Shift’, ‘Submerge ‘and ‘One hundred and seventy three (Black Saturday). Decay is a natural cycle of life; it is inherent in everything. Once something is created it immediately begins to age, from the beginning of the earth to the creation of the human race. The earth has been changing naturally over time but human induced degradation has spread rapidly, assisting climate change. Likewise the body ages slowly over time but its decay is hastened by the onset of disease, such as cancer.
